PHE America Advisory Board
The PHE America Advisory Board is comprised of professionals who are seasoned in their respected fields or have insight on a particular area of physical education, health, or coaching. To be eligible, an Advisory Board member must have one published article in PHE America and/or served PHE America (or previously PeLinks4u) in some capacity. Advisory Board members serve 1-3 year terms. Terms can be renewed. The Advisory Board Chair will be elected by the board members, annually. The Advisory Board will offer recommendations on potential topics and writers. In addition, board members will provide feedback on the quality and application of published articles to best reach and connect with practitioners.

Steve Jefferies

Steve Jefferies taught for 29 years in the Department of Physical Education, School, and Public Health at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA. Originally from Great Britain, Steve taught public school physical education before completing his MS and PhD degrees at the University of Oregon. He was publicly elected as a school board member (6 years), served as NASPE President (2008-09) and was the initiator of the PE 2020 project. Steve was SHAPE America President 2015-16 and helped initiate its “50 Million Strong by 2029” commitment. Steve created the online magazine pelinks4u (now PHE America). Today, his primary professional focus is on issues influencing the future of American public school physical education and health education.

Myles Baldwin

Myles Baldwin is a Physical Education teacher at Wells Combined School (K-12) in Wells, NV. Baldwin also serves as an assistant football coach and throws coach for Track & Field at Wells High School. He holds a certification in K-12 PE and Health in both Nevada and Idaho. A Graduate of Lewis-Clark State College with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education: Kinesiology with minors in Health, Psychology, and Coaching. He also has a Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University. Mr. Baldwin credits his previous experience with the Lewis-Clark Valley (ID) College Football team and the Asotin-Anatone School District in shaping his educational philosophy.

Elizabeth Bolger

Elizabeth (Beth) Bolger has been teaching for 20 years. The last 14 years have been at Lincoln Avenue Elementary in Sayville School District. She has been recognized through numerous awards including 2021 Shape America’s Eastern District Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year, 2020 NYS AHPERD Joy of Effort award, 2019-20 New York State AHPERD Elementary PE Teacher of the Year, 2017-18 Suffolk Zone Teacher of the Year, and the 2016 American Heart Association (AHA) Suffolk Zone Coordinator of the Year. She has been a top fundraiser in New York State for the AHA for numerous years. Beth serves on the Executive Board of NYS AHPERD- SUFFOLK ZONE as the Vice President of Dance. In addition, she serves on the Mini-Grants Committee for Suffolk Zone and is the coordinator for the Suffolk Zone Fit Club competition. She has presented at many conferences around the country and has won the “Get Moving NY” contest for her zone four years in a row and won 1st place in New York State in 2018. In addition, she is a three-time “Coach of the Year” (swimming, soccer, and diving). Beth is a competitor in the International Natural Body Building Federation in Figure and Ms. Fit Body and has won several titles.

Megan Buning

Megan Buning, PhD, CMPC, is a former Division I softball coach with stops at Florida State University, Coastal Carolina, and the University of Mississippi. She is a member of the University of South Carolina’s Athletic Hall of Fame and was named to the Southeastern Conference Women’s Legends Class in 2017. After her coaching career, she moved into academia, publishing in the sport psychology and coach education fields. She served as a tenured Associate Professor of research at Augusta University for six years. Her research line and foci involved examining the intersection of sport strategies and education and mental performance. Megan moved back to FSU as a Teaching Specialist in the FSU COACH Interdisciplinary Center in 2020. As a certified mental performance consultant, Megan provides mental performance training to a variety of game officials, athletes, and working professionals. Additionally, she is listed on the USOPC’s Sport Psychology Registry. Megan has worked since 2015 as a SECNetwork+ and ACCx talent analyst covering over 250 softball games for the University of South Carolina, Florida State University, and Clemson University.

Andy Gillham, Ph.D. is the Senior Sports Performance Specialist at the Sanford Sports Science Institute in Sioux Falls, SD. Previously he owned his own consulting practice (www.ludusconsulting.biz). More specifically, Dr. Gillham works primarily with coaches, athletes, and athletic administrators across competitive levels ranging from youth through professional sport. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a Certified Mental Performance Consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.

Pat also is a lecturer at The University of Kansas in Health Science and Exercise Sports. Kirk joined the faculty at Central Washington University in 2000, where he prepares future physical educators. A youth soccer coach for over 25 years, Kirk previously taught K-12 physical education before pursuing graduate work. Dr. Mathias’ current research focuses on the benefits of physical activity on reading comprehension in children.

He has been riding his bike for decades and has found immense pleasure, profound insights about life, and helped maintain his fitness while mostly keeping “the rubber side down” on his bike. He is currently an associate professor of Adventure Education at Westfield State University.
